Who's dying after AI? Design? PM? Dev?
AI
As I was scrolling through the many AI discussions on social media.. one post highlighted something interesting.. about how It's funny that the first thing everyone does in the age of AI is:
~Designer: "PM and Dev are dead"
~PM: "Design and Dev are dead"
~Dev: "Design and PM are dead"
~C-level: "You are all dead."
And how everyone's only thinking about subtracting.
And no one seems to be thinking that the age of AI is the age of multiplying..
This hit me.
Because I've seen the same pattern:
A tool gets smarter..
A role gets questioned..
A team gets defensive..
And suddenly, we're all busy trying to erase each other from the future 🙃
But here's the problem:
AI doesn't eliminate the need for collaboration. It exposes how fragile that collaboration already was.
The companies asking "do we still need design?" were already treating design as decoration.
The PMs automating research were never aligned on problem framing.
The devs generating UI were already frustrated by fragmented handoffs.
AI isn't causing dysfunction. It's revealing it.
And instead of fixing the foundation, people are racing to cut functions. 🙃
Instead of: "Who do we no longer need?" Let's zoom out a little bit, and ask:
What can we now do together that we couldn't do before?
